My approach to working with clients is warm and collaborative. I believe our trust-building and mutual collaboration are foundational to the process of change. I take a non-pathologizing approach to mental health, seeking out the root of the issues at hand. Together, we discover ways to heal in a way that is often times imaginative and rooted in the mind-body connection. I integrate my knowledge of the neurobiology of trauma into my work with clients, and through this trauma-informed lens, I help clients increase feelings of safety within their body and their awareness of emotions in their body, and we process trauma from a place of felt safety. My training as a therapist is grounded in social justice and I aim to support underrepresented folks who experience racism, sexism and other forms of oppression I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist and enjoy supporting clients with diverse cultural, gender and sexual identities. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, ADHD, attachment trauma, relationship issues, gender transitions, sexual trauma and childhood trauma.
I have a Master of Science in Counseling with a Somatic Emphasis from Prescott College, where I had additional training in somatic trauma work and the mind-body connection. I have been a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate, ESL tutor, and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) working with families in the foster system to advocate for children’s needs. I am a National Certified Counselor and a Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master.
My undergraduate studies were in Film and Media arts, and I have a background in the creative arts as a painter and musician. I worked in the professional art world for many years, and my curiosity and creativity are a part of who I am and also what I bring into sessions with my clients.
Outside of my work as a therapist, I love plants and herbal medicine, growing food, practicing yoga, being outdoors, eating food, painting, and spending time with my partner and our dogs. I have a dedicated meditation practice that is a very important part of my life and it keeps me grounded in my life and my work. I enjoy traveling and have been to many places, but I always hope to go more places, try new things, and live life with as much courage and weirdness as I can.
